Starcraft 2 had a similar quirk with the custom games system where people just insta-joined things on the first page, and everything was based on popularity (or number of plays/hours played), so for a while all the first page games were just balls, because no one really had the patience to check out anything past page 3 usually, and to get a game started you had to wait for the room to fill up. Though I still have to wonder how some tracks get up there, I don't think people have THAT bad taste.or it is just a chain reaction of purchase-bumping, lazy diggers downloading the top 10 chart every weekend, and thus everything that's visible bubbles to the top quickly once it hits that upper part of the ladder.
That's just what's big right now so everyone wants to get noticed. It's not always true but it isn't uncommon in the more popular genres at all, it's why the top 10 dubstep charts always sound awful. There may be one or two tracks in there every so often that does it, but otherwise it's just people in general have particularly bad taste. In a nutshell: it really pisses me off that such a bad track is #1 on beatport.

As djs, we must actually look for good tracks, and not just download whatever spinnin records and beatport tell us to buy. It would really sadden me if its all DJs buying that track. My question is, do regular consumers make up a large percent of the beatport sales? We need to become more discerning as consumers. Now Martin Garrix, and every other electro house producer, and every label is saying "why make good tracks, when we can regurgitate bad versions of our old drops on cookie cutter breakdowns and buildups" and still tons of records, and make tons of money. Why is that people bought this shit track to the point where its the #1 track on beatport, when its shit. Until we demand good tracks, producers have no reason to make good tracks. The real problem in the "EDM" world and i use the word "EDM" grudgingly, is not the producers, its the demand. I don't know the original but I'd bet that sucks too.
